Welcome! I am Dr. Fulya Felicity Turkmen, a political scientist specializing in Comparative Politics and International Relations. I hold a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Riverside. My previous research has focused on international and forced migration, citizenship, and the ethics of migration. My current research interests include transnational politics, emigrant political behavior, diasporas, and authoritarianism.

I study how authoritarian regimes extend control beyond their borders by managing their diasporas through both repression and outreach, and how emigrants respond. My book project develops a framework of Exit-Voice, Exit-Loyalty, and Exit-Silence to explain emigrant political behavior, drawing on surveys and multi-sited ethnographic fieldwork in Europe, the US, and the UK. It is supported by funding and professional development from the Princeton Dissertation Scholars Program, through the Mamdouha S. Bobst Center for Peace and Justice, and the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC), among others.
